Visa Services for Foreign Nationals Residing in Bulgaria

Foreign nationals who live, work or study legally in Bulgaria may be able to apply from Bulgaria for visas and electronic travel authorisations for other countries.

The applicable procedure depends on:

  • the applicant’s nationality;

  • the type of passport held;

  • the applicant’s residence status in Bulgaria;

  • the destination country;

  • the purpose and duration of the journey;

  • the requirements of the relevant embassy, consulate or electronic visa system.

REVERIE provides practical assistance with checking the applicable entry requirements, identifying the correct application category and preparing the required documents.

Who can use this service

The service is intended for foreign nationals who are legally residing in Bulgaria and hold an applicable residence document.

This may include:

  • employees of Bulgarian or international companies;

  • international students;

  • family members of Bulgarian or other foreign nationals;

  • holders of temporary, extended, long-term or permanent residence status;

  • people holding another legal residence status in Bulgaria;

  • seafarers, technicians and assigned employees;

  • company owners and managers;

  • foreign residents travelling for tourism, family visits or business.

Holding a Bulgarian residence permit does not automatically mean that an application for every destination can be submitted from Bulgaria. Some diplomatic missions accept applications only from citizens or qualifying residents within their consular jurisdiction.

Types of travel covered

Depending on the destination and the applicant’s nationality, assistance may be available for:

  • tourist visas;

  • business visas;

  • family or private visits;

  • transit visas;

  • electronic tourist visas;

  • electronic travel authorisations;

  • short-term study or training;

  • conferences, exhibitions and professional events;

  • medical visits;

  • corporate travel;

  • other eligible short-term purposes.

Requests involving employment, long-term study, family reunification, permanent settlement or another immigration status are reviewed in advance to establish whether they fall within the scope of REVERIE’s services.

Preliminary eligibility check

Before the application process begins, we check:

  • whether the applicant requires a visa;

  • whether the application may be submitted from Bulgaria;

  • whether an electronic application is available;

  • which category corresponds to the purpose of travel;

  • the required passport validity;

  • whether the Bulgarian residence document has sufficient validity;

  • the financial, employment and travel documents required;

  • whether a personal appointment or interview is necessary;

  • whether any additional requirements apply to the applicant’s nationality.

Every case is assessed individually. Entry rules applicable to Bulgarian citizens cannot automatically be applied to a foreign national living in Bulgaria.

Documents that may be required

The exact document list depends on the destination and application category. It may include:

  • a valid international passport;

  • a copy of the passport biodata page;

  • a valid Bulgarian residence permit or residence card;

  • a recent photograph meeting the applicable specifications;

  • a completed application form;

  • proof of address in Bulgaria;

  • an employment or university letter;

  • bank statements or other evidence of sufficient funds;

  • return flight tickets or reservations;

  • accommodation confirmation;

  • travel medical insurance;

  • an invitation from an individual, company or organisation;

  • evidence of family relationship;

  • a travel itinerary or explanation of the journey;
