Azamara Club Cruises

In 1989 Renaissance Cruises was founded in Oslo, Norway, which was later acquired by Edward Rudner, founder of Alamo Rent A Car. The pride of the line was composed of ships of 684 passengers that were part of the R class, and named: R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, R6, R7 and R8 – all built between 1998 and 2001. Even though they continued to build new ships, after the unfortunate event of September 11 that beflewed on the United States of America, Rennaissance Cruises ceased operations.

Cruise ships were very desirable, so three ended up under the tutelage of the Princess Cruises cruise line and three others under Oceania Cruises. The R6 and R7 were acquired by the parent company Royal Caribbean. The company quickly realized that the two new ships gave them the opportunity to create a new cruise line: Azamara Club Cruises.
